Today, September 23, the launch ceremony for Vietnam’s Robot Olympic Team was held at FPT High School Bac Tu Liem, with team members, distinguished guests, teachers, and parents in attendance.

The FIRST Global Team Vietnam 2024 consists of 12 robotics and STEM enthusiasts from various high schools such as the High School for Gifted Students (Natural Sciences), Chu Van An High School (Hanoi), Bac Giang High School for the Gifted, among others.

From September 26-29, 2024, the FIRST Global Challenge (FGC) 2024 will take place in Athens, Greece, featuring students from over 190 countries. FPT Schools is proud to have two outstanding representatives selected for Vietnam’s national team competing in the FIRST Global Challenge 2024: Nguyen Tuan Minh (FPT Elementary, Secondary & High School Bac Ninh) and Pham Tuan Anh (FPT High School Can Tho).

At 6 a.m. on September 24, five selected members of Team Vietnam will depart for Athens, Greece, to prepare for their journey to compete in the global “Robot Olympics.” The remaining team members will stay in Vietnam to continue spreading the spirit of technology and the positive values of the FIRST competition within the community.

The FIRST Global Challenge is considered the “Robot Olympics” and is held annually for high school students worldwide. The competition aims to ignite a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) among students, laying the foundation for building future STEM leaders. In 2024, the competition will be held under the theme “Feeding the Future” in Athens, Greece.

Dean Kamen, the founder of FIRST Global, once said: “I didn’t create the competition to build robots. I used robots to build kids.” The FGC provides students the opportunity to learn, grow, and mature through club activities, teamwork, and exchanges with clubs from both within Vietnam and abroad, such as those from Poland, South Korea, and Romania. The Vietnamese FGC team has also undertaken community projects to spread the spirit of technology, such as offering hands-on experiences for students at Van Quan Ethnic Boarding School (Lang Son) and organizing nationwide webinars for high school students.

Sharing his thoughts before departure, Pham Tuan Anh said, “I find it very exciting to work with peers who share the same passion for technology as I do. It’s also a great opportunity to learn from experienced teachers in the field.”

Nguyen Tuan Minh, who has long dreamt of being part of FGC Team Vietnam since learning about the Vietnam Robotics Challenge, said that his passion for robotics was further fueled by competitions like the Vietnam STEM Robotics Championship and the FIRST Tech Challenge. “Becoming a member of Team Vietnam has taught me a lot, helping me discover new things about myself, and it motivates me to give back more to the community,” Minh shared.

We wish Vietnam’s 2024 Robot Olympic Team the best of luck and hope they have unforgettable experiences at the FIRST Global Challenge 2024!
